How counselling helps with depression

Practical, confidential support

Counselling helps you understand what keeps low mood going and breaks the cycle with small, achievable changes. Sessions combine talking support with cognitive-behavioural techniques.

  • Behavioural activation: rebuilding routine and enjoyable activity
  • Challenging harsh or hopeless thinking
  • Problem-solving for stress that feeds low mood
  • Building support from family and friends
  • Relapse-prevention planning

Related support: Individual counselling, Grief & loss, Stress & burnout.

When to seek help for depression

Signs it may be time to talk to someone

  • Feeling sad, empty or hopeless most days
  • Losing interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Constant tiredness or low energy
  • Sleeping or eating much more or less than usual
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Pulling away from family and friends

Moderate to severe depression often needs a psychiatrist’s assessment alongside counselling. If that applies to you, Ayesha will refer you and can continue counselling in parallel.

Sessions are held in person in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, or online across Pakistan and worldwide, in Urdu or English.

If you are in immediate danger or thinking of harming yourself, go to your nearest hospital emergency department or call 1122. Counselling is not an emergency service.
